While our Pre and Post Surgery forums are specifically designated for men considering surgery, this is the thread for those who are looking to other options or have made a decision to go the non-surgical route. Here's a number of helpful links to get started on obtaining information about the various ways to treat prostate cancer.
On a personal note, I know from experience how frightening it is to receive a diagnosis of prostate cancer. All too often men choose a treatment option based on their fear of cancer rather than the specific diagnosis they receive. Unless your Doctor has told you that you have a life threatening cancer, (which is rare) take your time to do your research before you decide how to treat your Prostate Cancer.
Here's a list of helpful Links:
Treatment Options for Prostate Cancer
Us Too International
Over View of Treatment Options
Treatment Options by Stage of Cancer
Treatment Options for Recurrent Prostate Cancer
The Pro's & Con's of Treatment Options (You need to scroll down to see this information)
Since many prostate cancers are discovered early and may not require aggressive treatment, here are some links which provide information about Active Surveillance:
UCSF on Active Surveillance
American Cancer Society on Active Surveillance
Prostate Cancer Foundation on Active Surveillance
Choosing how to treat your cancer is one of the most difficult decisions you will make in your lifetime. My advice is to keep panic and fear out of the equation in order to make the best best decision based on your biopsy results and other tests results. No one should make this decision for you or pressure you into a specific treatment choice. Take time, get informed, be prayerful, and make the best decision you can based on your individual diagnosis.
If you are aware of helpful links which provide information about non-surgical ways to treat prostate cancer, this is the thread to share those links. Please note that all advertisements for the treatment for prostate cancer will be deleted from this thread. Our goal is to provide links which inform and educate those with prostate cancer about the variety of treatment options open to them.
If you end up choosing a non-surgical option, I hope you'll stop by this thread to share both your experience with that treatment option and the outcome of your treatment.
