I recently came across an article that did two things, first it got me thinking, after that it ticked me off. According to this article Doctors who buy their own equipment to preform radiation, recommend this treatment even when it may not be the best course of treatment for their patients with prostate cancer. In other words there are some Doctors who are putting profits above the interests of their patients. Here's a link to this article: Profits Above Treatment So a very important question to ask a Doctor who is advising radiation is whether they have any financial interest in the treatment they are suggesting for you. If they do, I believe there is a conflict of interest and you should seek a second opinion. Another treatment modality heavily promoted is Robotic Surgery. Treatment Centers have invested millions of dollars on Robotic Equipment and need to perform many robotic surgeries in order to maintain profits. Here's an article about misleading marketing of Robotic Surgery: Misleading AdvertisingUnless you are dealing with an aggressive and/or life threatening prostate cancer diagnosis, TAKE YOUR TIME to decide the best course of treatment. Meet with Doctors with different specialties for treating prostate cancer. Ask about the pro's and con's of each treatment option. Take all claims made on the Internet about the benefits of one treatment over the other with a grain of salt. In other words don't believe the hype, take time to get the facts. Here's a thread to help you separate the facts from fiction in order to help you make the right choice.
