Unfortunately there is wide spread agreement that hospitals and websites are using misleading ads to push men into robotic surgery. Here's a few articles about this very sad trend: Hospitals Mislead PatientsMisleading MarketingMisleading Reports About Robotic SurgeryFDA Looking into Robotic Surgery Claims About Robotic SurgeryIf you've been told you'll regain urinary control and erectile functioning within a few weeks or months of surgery the chances are these claims are misleading. While there are a few men who regain both of these functions quickly, for the majority of men it takes months to regain urinary control. Very few men experience the same level of hardness following prostate removal even when both nerves are spared. Many men with double nerve sparing surgery will not have an erection for 18-24 months post surgery. Without a penile rehab program, men could lose their erectile abilities permanently. I don't know how many men are told they will no longer ejaculate after your prostate is removed, but I know that was a complete and unpleasant surprise to me. For many men surgery is the right option, but make sure your decision is based on your diagnosis, rather than deceptive and misleading advertising. Here's a thread to discuss how misleading advertising could impact your treatment decision.
