Before your surgery, your Surgeon should have provided you with a written set of pre-surgical instructions that look something like this:
Pre-Surgery Instruction Form
It's very important your Surgeon know in advance what prescription medications, over the counter medications, vitamins, supplements and any herbal medications you take.
To go 24 hours without solid foods is difficult. Some men just can't do this, so they sneak something and say to themselves a little of ______ won't matter. The fact is it does matter. Your digestive track must be empty of all solid food. Even a little tiny bit of cheating could cost you your life. So if you do cheat, admit it and postpone your surgery.
Another difficult task is to stop drinking all fluids at mid-night before your surgery. Your throat will be very dry. I must confess I take medication that gives me dry mouth and I found it impossible to go without fluid. I cheated here. I had a few hard candies, that I didn't chew and swallow, I sucked them until they were gone.
Another unpleasant task is giving yourself an enema. The kit you purchased at your local pharmacy should come with the instructions you need. Here's link if you want additional information:
Enema Instructions
For those who are visual learners here's a video you can watch that explains the procedure:
If you didn't empty the whole bag on the first attempt, you'll need to perform the enema again if you aren't expelling clear fluid. Once the fluid is clear you've completed this rather unpleasant task.
If you have a wedding ring or jewelery that you wear all the time, now is the time to take those off and put them some place safe. You'll need to be jewelery free prior to surgery.
If you've followed all your pre-surgery instructions, pack a bag with the clothing you'll want to wear when you leave the hospital. Say a prayer with your partner (if you are so inclined)before you leave to the surgery center.
Most surgery centers want you their approximately 3 hours before surgery. So you should have received a time in which you need to check in. You are good to go.
