I've been hearing a lot of men tell me that surgery has ruined their lives forever. The fact is too many men diagnosed with prostate cancer are choosing life altering aggressive treatments based on their fears of cancer rather than the specifics of their diagnosis. This thread is under construction. The goal in this thread will be to provide information about active surveillance and bring men who've chosen this option together to discuss both the advantages and disadvantages. Active Surveillance doesn't mean you do nothing. You'll get tests on a regular basis. If you chose this option it's wise to modify your diet, which means eating less of some food groups and eating more from others. Doing this can make a difference in course of your cancer. Here are some informational links: Why Chose Active SurveillanceWhen to consider active surveillanceAnother When to Consdier Active SureillanceRisks of Active SurveillanceA Doctor's View on Active SurveillanceWhen it comes to fighting prostate cancer with food, there are lots of quacks out there promoting things that don't work. I am limiting links about food nutrition and cancer to sites that are reputable. Many studies show that too many men are choosing aggressive treatment. Now a new study raises doubts about the long term safety of active surveillance: Doubts about active surveillanceDeciding how to treat prostate cancer is one of the most difficult decisions men/couples will face. The reason I chose surgery had to do with my doubts whether anyone could tell me the exact time aggressive treatment would be necessary. From the other direction, I've known men who've been on active surveillance successfully for decades. If this option is chosen I believe a change in life style, dieting, eating and exercise are necessary components of this option.
